Freelance to Hire Art Web Director

LimeRed Studio, a web and print design firm in Chicago, is looking for a freelance art director who lives in or near Chicago. This position will be 3-4 months of freelance with the opportunity for a full-time position in 2012.

NO recruiters, PLEASE.

We're not into advanced degrees or big names. We just want to see good work. And we want to know you can follow a process.

Please respond only if you:

  • Live in or near Chicago. We have in-person meetings.
  • Are a full-time freelancer. We work during business hours.
  • Use a Mac.

Required application components:

  1. A well-written, thoughtful cover letter that is a break from the normal sludge.
  2. Your hourly rate.
  3. References, at least two, with phone numbers.
  4. Portfolio, be that a PDF or a website.

Incomplete applications will be thrown away. You know how many of those things we get? Surprise us with completion!

We're looking for someone who:

  • Understands the fundamentals of design, usability and website architecture
  • Has at least 5 years of experience in design or can demonstrate advanced design skills
  • Understands programming, technology and their opportunities and restrictions
  • Understands mobile and/or responsive web design
  • Advanced knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite v5
  • Is responsive and available, can work to meet deadlines.
  • Has a working knowledge of ExpressionEngine, Wordpress and Drupal

Please address your competency with the above items in your cover letter.

Art Director responsibilities:

  • Work on website information architecture, planning and wireframing
  • Create concepts and execute design based on creative direction
  • Design print, online and identity components for a variety of clients
  • Attend client meetings
  • Conduct design research
  • Advise on content and site usability
  • Keep current on trends and technology
  • Work with a team
  • Programming experience is not required, but is a huge bonus!
